TICKET OFFICE SAVED!
Teignmouth people are celebrating following the
Government’s u-turn on their plans to close our local
Rail Ticket Office.
The Government’s plans were met with fierce opposition. Over
750,000 people responded to a national consultation on the
proposals - with 99% against the plans. Martin Wrigley, the Lib Dem
parliament candidate joined local residents to oppose the plans - that
would have seen Newton Abbot and Dawlish as well as Teignmouth
Ticket Office close.
iberal Democrat councillors moved a council motion at Teignbridge
Council and shared a petition calling for the Government to scrap
their plans. Teignmouth’s Devon County councillor, David Cox said;
“This is a victory for ‘people power’. We are delighted the huge
campaign against the closures has been successful.”
“The Conservative Government has been forced into an embarrassing
u-turn. Closing the Teignmouth Ticket Office would have impacted
more vulnerable residents in our community, who struggle to use ticket
machines or online booking.”
“It shows what we can achieve when we come together. It’s a win for
local people over an out-of-touch Government .”
