Teignmouth Hospital
Plans to close Teignmouth Hospital have
been referred to the health secretary, by
Devon County Council’s Health and Adult
Care Scrutiny Committee.
Councillors David Cox and Martin Wrigley spoke in
favour of keeping Teignmouth Hospital and asked
the committee to vote for referral.
Councillors on the committee said they were
concerned the plans were not in the best interests
of patients.
The decision to refer the matter to the Health
Secretary was unanimous A large number of
people came to support Teignmouth Hospital,
including town councillors Penny Lloyd and Steve
Welsh.
Once NHS bosses have responded to the vote, the
future of Teignmouth Hospital will be in the hands
of the Health Minister.
Martin said: “ The people of Teignmouth, Shaldon
and Bishopsteignton have been campaigning for a
long time to save Teignmouth Hospital, they have
remained committed all that time. This is an
important milestone on the journey to keep the
hospital open.”
