Community Spirit
Teignmouth is full of talented people who want to
make a difference. However, all too often they are
put off by bureaucracy. Liberal Democrat
councillors want to give more responsibility and
resources to local people to unleash their energy
and talent. We’ll make it easier for residents to take
part. In improving our town
Lib Dems’ priority is to create a happier and more
prosperous Teignmouth.
Councillor Penny Lloyd (Teignmouth Central) has
started the ball rolling, changing the Teignmouth in
Bloom scheme to tidy and maintain the green
spaces in Teignmouth all year round with the help
of volunteers. Land owners, both public and private
have been approached to allow volunteers to
cultivate run-down areas.

Potholes
As temperatures drop with winter, we are seeing more Potholes.
At the budget meeting at Devon County Council, the Liberal Democrats proposed an amendment to put £12 million on highways, Greens and Independents supported this unfortunately, this amendment was defeated by Conservative and Labour votes.
You can report a pothole here:
I hope Teignmouth Town Council will sign up to the ‘Road Warden’ scheme so that volunteers can make rudimentary repairs to potholes.
TICKET OFFICE SAVED!
Teignmouth people are celebrating following the
Government’s u-turn on their plans to close our local
Rail Ticket Office.
The Government’s plans were met with fierce opposition. Over
750,000 people responded to a national consultation on the
proposals - with 99% against the plans. Martin Wrigley, the Lib Dem
parliament candidate joined local residents to oppose the plans - that
would have seen Newton Abbot and Dawlish as well as Teignmouth
Ticket Office close.
iberal Democrat councillors moved a council motion at Teignbridge
Council and shared a petition calling for the Government to scrap
their plans. Teignmouth’s Devon County councillor, David Cox said;
“This is a victory for ‘people power’. We are delighted the huge
campaign against the closures has been successful.”
“The Conservative Government has been forced into an embarrassing
u-turn. Closing the Teignmouth Ticket Office would have impacted
more vulnerable residents in our community, who struggle to use ticket
machines or online booking.”
“It shows what we can achieve when we come together. It’s a win for
local people over an out-of-touch Government .”
Teignmouth Hospital
Plans to close Teignmouth Hospital have
been referred to the health secretary, by
Devon County Council’s Health and Adult
Care Scrutiny Committee.
Councillors David Cox and Martin Wrigley spoke in
favour of keeping Teignmouth Hospital and asked
the committee to vote for referral.
Councillors on the committee said they were
concerned the plans were not in the best interests
of patients.
The decision to refer the matter to the Health
Secretary was unanimous A large number of
people came to support Teignmouth Hospital,
including town councillors Penny Lloyd and Steve
Welsh.
Once NHS bosses have responded to the vote, the
future of Teignmouth Hospital will be in the hands
of the Health Minister.
Martin said: “ The people of Teignmouth, Shaldon
and Bishopsteignton have been campaigning for a
long time to save Teignmouth Hospital, they have
remained committed all that time. This is an
important milestone on the journey to keep the
hospital open.”
Thank You!
Daniel Comer won the Teignmouth Central byelection in spectacular style, winning more than half
the vote.
Dan hit the ground running helping with the seafront clean up
after storms battered the promenade,
Dan thanked everyone who took the trouble to vote.Dab got 52%, the Conservatives came second with 28% and Labour last with 20%.
Parliamentary candidate Martin Wrigley said the result
showed that in this constituency only the Liberal Democrats
could beat the Conservatives,
